Window Shutters - design and fitting across the UK
Window
shutters are a beautiful and practical way to enhance any window. Not only are they highly practical, requiring very little maintanence, but they are also very fasionable and look absolutely stunning. They act as efficient noise as well as energy efficient
insulators and enable you to control the amount of natural light
that comes into your room. Window shutters last a long time
with very little maintenance and are fast becoming a popular
choice of window dressing. There are many different kinds of
window shutters available, but wooden window shutters are the
most commonly used.
Here are a few tips on how to choose window shutters for your windows:
|
Use the color of your window frames to
decide on the color of your window shutters. This way if
you ever decide to change the color of your walls or if
you decide to change the flooring, you don't have to get
new shutters to match. White is the most common color in
window shutters as they make the room look and feel airier
and larger. |
|
Try and get interior window shutters that
match the layout of your window. Your window might have
separate glass sections or wooden struts that you should
try and cover with the shutters. |
|
Wider shutters with louvers that are larger in size let in maximum light without having to get the shutters fully opened. |
|
Think about how the shutters will look from the outside of the house as well as from the inside. Choosing different shutter blinds for different rooms may not make a difference when you are in the house, but may not look appealing when you are looking from the outside. |
|
To get maximum soundproofing, choose solid
shutters for your windows. |
|
Make sure the company you are buying from will provide you with proper care and maintenance support when needed. |

Window Shutter Materials
Our window shutters come in a variety of hardwoods and softwoods. We here at Signature Shutters have made the decision to supply shutters in 3 different woods. Each wood has different characteristics and dependent on your particular requirements for your shutters.
 |
Basswood is an American, sustainable sourced hardwood and an important specialised use is in the construction of venetian blinds and shutters. It has ideal mechanical properties and evenness of grain ensuring consistency of finish, strength and rigidity.
Lockwood is manufactured from a timber called Hemlock. A less expensive alternative to Basswood, it is however no less inferior. Like the Basswood shutter, the Lockwood product is also made from kiln-dried, laminated timber. Hemlock has an attractive grain structure and is particularly hard wearing. |
Our Craftwood shutter is finished in a tough, water resistant poly coating and is resistant to scuffing, staining, cracking, chipping and fading! Being moisture resistant the Craftwood shutter is ideal for humid rooms such as bathrooms.
