Louvered Shutters: Control your Windows… Beautifully
Louvered shutters are fast becoming very popular among homeowners. They look more modern as compared to the dated look of curtains and valances. They are also more durable and easier to maintain. Window shutters are also hugely energy efficient. They can bring down your energy bills by keeping out the heat in summer and the cold in winter.
Louvered shutters provide you with a convenient way to regulate natural light that comes into the room. You can tilt the louvered shutters just a little bit to allow sufficient light in and yet maintain your privacy. If opened fully, they can brighten up any room.
Most interior window shutters use louvers that are 1 ¼ inch wide, but the louvers of plantation shutters are a big wider at 2 ½”, 3”, 3 ½” or 4 ½” widths. The size of the louvers in window shutters depends on the depth and size of the window. Louvers that are larger also have a larger space between them and allow more light to come into the house.
One of the main things to be checked in louvered shutters is the tension of the louvers. It has to be just right. If it is too loose, it can keep falling and if it is too tight it would be very difficult to open or close. Plantation interior shutters can also be constructed with fixed louvers, which are built at an angle to avoid direct sunlight but to let in fresh air. Window shutters come in many different materials, but the most commonly used is wood.
Signature shutters has a wide range of louvered shutters in a choice of basswood, Lockwood and Craftwood. Basswood shutters are lighter and more even grained and ideal for use in wider windows. Craftwood shutters are heavier, but offer great water-resistant and are ideal for use in bathrooms.
