Interior Shutters in Birmingham and Manchester for your home
For stylish shade seekers, our Interior shutters are a modern alternative
to the more traditional curtains or blinds. They can often work out to be cheaper, are more hygienic, and easy to clean and require no little or maintenance
at all. This type of window dressing will also provide you with a convenient way to regulate natural light that comes into the room. You can tilt
the louvered shutters just a little bit to allow sufficient light in and yet maintain your privacy.
You will find that our shutter options come in many different materials and many different styles to suit almost every kind of window. Full height interior window shutters are those that run from the top of the window right down to the bottom. Caf é style window shutters are those that cover the lower portion of the windows and in Tier on Tier there are two tiers of shutters,
one is on the bottom part of the window and the other, on the
top half. Interior window shutters are available in a large range of materials,
the most popular of which is wood.
The three main kinds of wood
used in internal shutters are basswood, lockwood and craftwood. Basswood is one of the most popular woodsthat are used for shutters. Its mechanical properties and quality of grain give it the required rigidity as well as finish. It
is also one of the lightest woods and is ideal for use in windows
that are particularly wide. The basswood is kiln dried and laminated
before being used for interior shutters.
Lockwood window shutters are also made from timber that is laminated and kiln-dried. Lockwood shutters cost a little less than shutters
made of Basswood, but the quality is comparable. Craftwood shutters
are heavier than Lockwood and Basswood and are ore suitable
for windows that are narrower. Their moisture resistant property
makes them a great choice for rooms that are likely to remain
humid, such as the bathroom. Signature shutters offers interior
shutters from its outlets in Birmingham, Manchester, Midlands,
Northampton, Cheltenham, Cheshire, Sheffield and Warwick.
Interior Shutter Colours
The range of colours available is dependent upon which material you choose for your shutters to be constructed in. Below are swatches showing the range of colours available for each wood type. Colours represented here are to be used as a guideline only and do not reflect the true look of the finished product.
If you opt for the Basswood or Lockwood shutter there is an option to have your shutters finished in either a Dulux © Trade colour or a Farrow and Ball © Trade colour. This finish is sprayed on to the panels using a cellulose-based paint to obtain a hard, fine finish. This particular option is a non-standard finish and will add approximately 15% to the cost of Basswood shutters and 20% to the cost of Lockwood shutters. Other colours can be matched, but this will result in a further increased cost (price on application).

Shutter Mounting Options
There are a wide range of alternative mounting options for you to consider which include:
Inside Mount – Vintage Hanging Strip With this particular mount, the frame is fixed directly in to the window. The shutters will open and fold back against the inside of the recess (please note that the shutters may protrude further than the recess depending upon recess depth and panel width). Sufficient clearance must be allowed between the shutters (when closed) and the window to accommodate the opening of slats and obstructions such as window handles.
Inside Mount – Plain Batten Rather than fixing in to the window, with this particular mount the frame is fixed in to the recess. Again, the shutters will open and fold back against the inside of the recess (please note that the shutters may protrude further than the recess depending upon recess depth and panel width). Sufficient clearance must be allowed between the shutters (when closed) and the window to accommodate the opening of slats and obstructions such as window handles.
Inside Mount – Beaded Z Frame If using a Z frame, the shutters are mounted at the front of the recess, on the edge where it meets the face of the wall. With this option, the shutter panels will fold back against the wall either side of the window.
